The Foundation

The heart of our commitment to giving back.

The PEN Group Foundation was created to support charitable, educational and community-focused initiatives around the world. It reflects our belief that success carries a responsibility to create opportunities for others.

By investing in people, supporting worthwhile causes and partnering with organisations that share our values, we aim to deliver lasting social impact, and to help build brighter futures for communities both at home and across the globe.

We are the charitable organisation of PEN Group, which underwrites our running costs so that public donations go only to programmes.

What we support

Four areas. One standard.

Every commitment is assessed on evidence, governed independently, and reviewed against what it set out to achieve.

Global outreach

Who we work with

Partnering with organisations that share our values.

We fund organisations already established in communities, and commit for long enough that they can plan around it.

MosaicMentoring

Opening doors that qualifications alone do not

We back mentoring that connects people in under-served communities with role models drawn from business and the professions. It is the kind of relationship that turns ambition into a plausible next step.

  • Mentor recruitment
  • Employability workshops
  • Multi-year funding

We are always glad to hear from organisations whose work overlaps with ours. Start a conversation.

How support becomes impact

From commitment to outcome, in four steps.

A group discussing a proposal around a table01

A cause is proposed

Partners, employees and community organisations put causes forward. Every proposal is assessed against the same published criteria.

We assess and commit

Trustees review need, governance and evidence of delivery, then commit for a defined period, so a partner can plan around the funding rather than reapply for it.

Partners deliver

The work is run by organisations already established in communities. We fund them, support them enabling key experts to deliver upon their promise.

We measure and publish

Outcomes are tracked against what was promised and reported in full each year.

And then?

That belief enables the Foundation to activate causes that benefit people globally.

In their words

The people who do the work, on what it changed.

“They asked what we needed rather than telling us what they wanted to fund. That is rarer than it should be, and it is why the work held up.”
